CHARACTER
Name: MBEX-305-A. More commonly called Hopper or Hop. MBEX-305-A is short for Mutant Breeding EXperiment, Litter 305, Specimen A.
Age: He looks about 15, and biologically he's 10, but adding the time spent in bio-stasis he's about 75.
Appearance: He's short for his apparent age, about 4'9". Rather scrawny, except for his legs, which (while remaining nearly muscle-less) are pretty agile and able to kick with the strength of a mule if necessary. He has dirty blonde hair that's short, messy and spiked in all directions, with long rabbit ears poking out of the top. Both the hair and the fur on his ears are velveteen-soft and rather feathery. His hair also very good for making yarn out of. His skin is pale, almost white, and his eyes are dark amber. His eyes are also usually hidden by dark sunglasses, which have a cracked lens on the left side.
Although at his "canon" point he's wearing precious little of interest (to be specific, a pair of black baggy jeans, red converse and a long-sleeved red shirt, all coated in dust and burn-marks) his taste in clothes is rather fancy; black clothes, jeans, pocket-overloads and chains are definitely to his liking. He also has a habit of incorporating miscellaneous bits of paper and plastic into his outfit, although he has no real reason for this. There's also a plastic collar around his neck like those given to shelter animals, with "MBEX-305-A" written across it.
As another fun note, the hair on his arms, back and legs is just as soft as that on his head. He's also unable to grow facial hair, but that's partly because his life expectancy is around 20 years. His nails and front teeth grow at an inhuman rate, which is why he's developed a habit of eating his nails when thinking and chewing random hard objects to file his teeth. He also loves salt, but that's a different story entirely.
Chosen PB: I'll be drawing my own icons. :3
Personality: Hop is a bit of an asshole. Okay, "a bit" is a stretch. He's the type of guy who takes pictures of himself shirtless in the bathroom mirror showing off invisible muscles, kicks puppies just because it's "cool", and would jump off a cliff if everyone else was doing it. He makes friends who beat the shit out of him if he steps out of line, and makes a fool of himself by the standards of normal society as long as it helps his rank in his own social circle. In short, the stereotype of the "bro" subculture.
Of course, not of this is actually heart-felt. He's just a bit of a sheep; he wants to be accepted, so he goes far out of his comfort zone to get that. He holds this mask up simply because his actual personality seems weak to him. In reality he's a softy, a pacifist and a bit of a coward. He lives to make others smile, and his favorite thing in the word is getting his ears scratched. He's lazy, silly, and would never hurt a fly. But it's because of this seeming "weak" in his opinion that he's become violent, argumentative, headstrong and snarky.
To males, at least. Although some women still fit the description of those he doesn't like and never will, he's much more interested in flirting with chicks than fighting with them. His tastes are rather questionable, he's to dumb blonde chicks with big boobs like a moth to a flame. He goes mostly for the whores that will make him look "cool". In reality, though, he's much more of a hopeless romantic. He's never been sure how long he'll live, it's a miracle by his terms that he's made it 10 years. So he's looking for someone who understands him for who he truly is below the mask, and doesn't care about how insecure he is. Being a rabbit would also help but he's just weird like that.
He also gets really pissed off when you offer him carrots.
World Information: In December 2012, America was destroyed by a mass malfunction in almost all nuclear power plants. They lost all contact with the outside world, and the country was considered, for all intents and purposes, to have become unlivable. However, in the center of the country, a city formed named Eremia; utopia.
It is now 2313, and the city of Eremia has thrived. It is a true utopia, where everyone contributes exactly what they want, health problems and racism are almost non-existant and battles have broken out so little that humans have actually forgotten how to fight. A good amount of work is left to machines, which are left with little to no sentience thanks to the fears of a robot apocalypse. Ah, humans.
Of course, this is not all. The reason behind the utopia is the government's stratagems; they have brainwashed the population into forgetting things that would cause them to want more than their relatively simplistic lives, culled geniuses and hidden the true nature of the nuclear disasters from the general public.
The nuclear explosions actually caused many humans in the area to morph into new forms, gaining qualities from animals, plants and even miscellaneous elements. These mutants were captured by the government's science department and experimented on relentlessly during Eremia's first century of existance. The lab was then abandonned out of boredom and lack of interesting results, and the mutants were left in bio-stasis. In 2248 there was an incident where a boy named Agi Shissou found the lab, and secretly visited the mutants there for about 35 years. After that he disappeared for another 30 years, after which he came back with his young grandchild Karuma. Karuma is now the self-appointed protector of the labs, and is trying to cause a revolution in Eremia with the mutants' help. So far it hasn't done much, seeing as little to no one is able to break the curse of the government's brainwashing.
History: Hop was part of the 305th litter of lab-bred mutants, after the process had been pretty much perfected. He was the older of a litter of three, with a sister named Jump (MBEX-305-B) and a brother named Skip (MBEX-305-C). They were raised from birth by scientists, as their "parents" never survived far past the DNA-extracting process.
Around their 7th birthday, Hop configured a plan that would let them escape from the laboratory. Although it was later scrapped, another mutant named Sorrel (MBEX-200-D) brought it up to Jump, telling her that she could make her brothers notice her potential by pulling it off. But it failed miserably, and the scientists euthenized her. When Hop learned of this he was consumed by rage, and tried his hardest to murder Sorrel, but being much younger, he was instead beaten senseless. Because of that, his arms and back are now riddled with scars.
After that, Skip and Hop became very close, to the point of refusing to talk to anyone else. By the time the lab was closed down, they spoke rarely outside their private nonsense-language and Hop had taken to scratching and biting anyone who tried to separate them. When Agi Shissou discovered them in biostasis 35 years later, they were curled up in the same chassis, as the scientists had never been able to separate them even for that. They continued never to speak to him, but it was he who gave them the names Hop and Skip. It was later decided between them that their sister's name was Jump. He also gave Hop his sunglasses, and introduced him to the bro subculture inadvertantly while explaining the modern world to other mutants. During their time out Hop tried several more times to challenge Sorrel, but they all ended similarly. Eventually, Skip told him that "if you keep getting yourself hurt, I'll never talk to you again." And that was the only thing that stopped him.
Aftering being left in bio-stasis for another 30 years, Hop met Karuma. Innitialy thinking Karuma was a girl, he tried opening up and flirting, but was later tripped up upon the discovery that Karuma is indeed genderless. But after Sorrel openly attacked Karuma and Hop defended him/her, they became tentative friends. Thanks to Karuma's support, Hop was able to mostly put Jump's death behind him, and open up to others. Although by that time he didn't know how to act, so he just recalled things Agi had told about society and acted like that. Thus, the asshole he is today.
Strengths/Weaknesses: He has ocular albinism, which means that his eyes have no pigment and are very light-sensitive. Without his shades, he's pretty much blind and it hurts to open his eyes.
Most of his body is incredibly scrawny, but his legs are sleek and muscular. Getting kicked by Hop is the equivalent to getting a brick thrown at you.
The topic of female rabbits makes him go haywire and break things that he would not normally be able to break. So does the mention of rabbit-related food items (rabbit soup, anyone?).
His walk is pretty strange, he occassionally stumbles because his legs itch to move like a rabbit's. The habit is made worse by his tendacy to hop on his hands and feet when no one is watching.
Abilities: He has a sixth sense for danger, though it often comes off as paranoia to those who he tells about it. It gives him the ability to dodge most speed-based attacks, but he has little range for dodging so he can get hit easily with wide-range attacks. Other than that, mainly his ability to kick people like a mule.
First Person: [Video]
[At first he didn't notice the watch, but when he does, it clicks immediately what it's for. Yeah, there are things like this in the laboratory, he's seen scientists use them.]
Sorrel! [A young blond boy in shades appears on the screen, not particularly caring that it's upside-down even if he notices. He's scowling, shaking and clearly on the verge of throwing the watch against a wall.] Sorrel, I know you're out there! Damnit, what did you do with Skip!? I know you took him, he'd better be alive, give him the hell back! Or I'll... I-I'll...!! [He sniffles quietly.] I'll kill you, you bastard!! [With that, intentional or not, the feed cuts out.]
Third Person: He waited and stared at his surrounding. Waited until some unknown force shoved him off, and then he fell to the ground with a huff. He looked back to watch for his brother to be forced out with him, but the train simply left. And now that he thought about it, Skip hadn't been on the train ride either. That was too strange for him, they'd never been apart before. Ever. Even when it was dangerous for more than one to go, they were together. He'd made sure of that through any means possible... why were they apart now?
Wait. He paused in sitting up, and looked around the city. The part that he could see of it. He'd never seen the land above ground outside of pictures before, but his mind put the clues together quickly. Sorrel must have taken Skip to spite him. He must have been chasing them, that's why he was on that weird train... And wherever that jackass had taken his brother, he was going to pay!
He hopped to his feet, grimacing at the feeling of a bruise left over from one of his brilliant escape attempts. No, maybe that was from fighting Sorrel. Who knew. It didn't matter, in any case. It was time to kill that damn pixie for good. He checked his pockets for supplies... oh, awesome, a pack of sparklers and a weird pocketwatch. No, the pocketwatch made him pause. That wasn't there before, and after some investigation he found that it had a video transmission going. Well, a warning is always nice, isn't it?
